Baked Pears in Cream

These pears are to die for! Believe it or not, I first had them for breakfast while staying at my all-time favorite bed-and-breakast, the Antietam Overlook Farm.

Innkeeper, John Dreitch rose early on New Year's Day and popped the pears in the oven while everyone else was still sleeping off the previous night's champagne. Granted, baked pears are a snap to prepare... but he still had to get up!

Ingredients

2 Bosc or Bartlett Pears, unpeeled, hlaved, and cored
2 tablespoons butter
Cinnamon sugar
1 cup heavy cream

Instructions

Spray a baking dish with Pam cooking spray. Drop 2 tablespoons of butter in dish, and sprinkle liberally with cinnamon sugar. Place pears, cut side down in dish. Spray top of pears with Pam, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.

Bake at 350°F for about 45 minutes. At the end of 45 minutes, pierce pears with a sharp knife to make sure they are almost cooked. (Bosc or Bartlett pears can be very hard.) Pour 1 cup of heavy cream over almost-cooked pears and bake 20 to 25 minutes more. Serve warm.
